Set-up in 1997 by our director Margaret Minhinnick Sustainable Wales is Wales’ oldest sustainable development practitioner.
Aims
The charity aims to influence societal consumer behaviour: to promote one planet living to try to ensure survival of the planet and to lobby for policy change to achieve more sustainable lifestyles that support the local economy.
Objectives
- To encourage and increase use of local, green, and ethical goods and services by society.
- To reduce waste of resources and level of waste disposal, providing support for durable products, reuse and recycling
- To save energy and promote renewable energy to combat global warming.
- To protect biodiversity to maintain the planet’s life-support systems.
- To fundraise to do the above.
- To involve volunteers.
Actions
- Promote, educate and advance awareness of sustainable development - via various media activities, PR/marketing, information/resource production, public events or festivals.
- Offer information, advice, support, facilitation to help Welsh citizens/organisations/networks work towards sustainable development via their activities, projects, policies and practices.
- Organise training, workshops, seminars, conferences.
- Encourage and develop community-based activities that are replicable.
- Collaborate to influence other sectors.
- Involve volunteers, local people and politicians.
- Fundraise via grants, sponsorship, consultancy and training fees.

Sustainable Wales is based in Porthcawl.
Ownership
Sustainable Wales is an unincorporated charitable trust (registration number 1065789/0) managed by an elected board of Trustees who appoint a full-time director and other staff.
